LUC supports research project led by the Office for Environmental Protection
LUC has supported the Office for Environmental Protection (OEP) by conducting research on three distinct assessment systems for proposed development's environmental impact.
The study pinpoints practical challenges within each system, which could hamper the Government's environmental goals.

LUC aided the OEP by comparing practices in England and Northern Ireland with global approaches. The research identifies global best practices and assesses their applicability locally. Additionally, it examines if international assessment systems explicitly aim for environmental outcomes. The study shows limited global use, with some evidence from parts of Australia.
Working with Prof. Thomas Fischer (University of Liverpool), Dr Alan Bond (University of East Anglia), and Ric Eales (an Independent Environmental Consultant), LUC's team collaborated internationally.
“It was great to research and collaborate with environmental professionals across the world to share experiences and to identify areas of potential best practice.”
