LUC’s interactive storyboard urges key stakeholders to act now to secure CVRP's legacy and benefits
Colne Valley Regional Park (CVRP) commissioned LUC to develop a storyboard to show that, while it has a great legacy and strategic importance in the face of climate change, the park is declining, due to development pressures and pollution. CVRP will use the storyboard to engage policymakers, including Local Authorities, Members of Parliament and the Mayor of London, seeking their support as a matter of urgency.
CVRP, on London's western edge, attracts two million annual visitors and spans 60 square kilometres, with 200km of waterways and over 70 lakes.
Using our expertise in GIS mapping and visualisation, the storyboard highlights CVRP’s strategic importance and the threats it faces. It emphasises the need for better protection - so that its legacy and benefits are not lost - and enhancement so that it provides even greater benefits for people and nature.
The storyboard stresses that the Green Belt policy affords insufficient protection; indeed, damaging infrastructure has been permitted in the area. A more positive, multifaceted approach is required and the CVRP should be recognised as a forerunner of positive planning and management of Green Belt land to achieve multiple benefits – a regional park approach for others to follow.
This project expands LUC's portfolio of supporting crucial causes in land use, environment, and social well-being through accessible resources.
