LUC becomes partner of Manchester City of Trees initiative
LUC has become a partner of City of Trees, a charity initiative set to increase the amount of trees in Greater Manchester.
City of Trees is an innovative and exciting movement, set to re-invigorate Greater Manchester’s landscape by restoring underused, unloved woodland and planting a tree for every man, woman and child that lives in the City Region, within a generation. The scheme is initiated by The Oglesby Charitable Trust and Community Forest Trust.
City of Trees’ goals
- 3 million trees planted, one for every man, woman and child across Greater Manchester
- 2,000 hectares of unmanaged woodland brought back into use for the community
- Connect people to the trees and woods around them
City of Trees is a movement, bringing people, organisations and companies together to green Greater Manchester to create community orchards across Greater Manchester, to empower local communities to take ownership and management of their local woodland and to work with schools to strengthen the relationship between children, woodlands and wildlife.
LUC is pleased to be supporting this scheme as it shares much of its ethos with us. We look forward to attending talks and CPD sessions, volunteering and working to ensure our cities and towns benefit from urban greening initiatives and trees.
