Marine Character Assessments for England and Wales nearing completion
We are pleased to be nearing completion on two major seascape projects.
LUC’s seascape assessment team is completing desk-based Marine Character Assessments for the South East, North West, and North East of England Marine Planning Regions. This follows on from our earlier work for the MMO to produce the Seascape Assessment for the South. These studies will help the MMO provide baseline evidence on seascape for future marine planning, helping to ensure that the marine environment is understood in terms of its capacity to accommodate change from developments, renewables and new activities.
We are also finalising the Wales National Seascape Assessment, which identifies 29 Marine Character Areas for Wales’ Inshore Waters. National mapping and detailed accompanying descriptions will provide strategic evidence on marine character to support the forthcoming Wales National Marine Plan.
Once these extensive studies are complete, LUC will have characterised the seascape of a large proportion of the English and Welsh coasts and seas.
