LUC to lead masterplan for Lavender Pond Nature Park
Southwark Council has appointed LUC as Lead Consultant and Landscape Architect for the Lavender Pond Masterplan Project in Rotherhithe.
The project will deliver a refreshed long-term vision for Lavender Pond Nature Park, one of London’s hidden ecological gems.
It lies just three miles from LUC’s London office and holds special significance for the team – LUC originally designed the site 45 years ago.

The council sought a consultant to lead RIBA stages 1 to 7. This includes planning, design, community engagement, and a developed package of works to be tendered for delivery.
Working closely with Southwark Council and local stakeholders, LUC will create a clear and practical masterplan for the site.
The design will celebrate the park’s heritage while improving access, visitor experience, and biodiversity.
Lavender Pond Nature Park opened in 1981 on part of the much larger historic Lavender Pond, where timber was once floated to prevent it from drying and cracking.
Despite its modest 2.5-acre size, the park supports a rich variety of habitats and wildlife. It includes boardwalks, meadow areas, and paths designed for inclusive access.
The park serves as a peaceful green space for residents, a hands-on classroom for local schools, and a valuable habitat for urban nature.
LUC looks forward to helping shape the next chapter of this well-loved space.
