Minerals Local Plan for Gloucestershire commended at RTPI South West Awards
A LUC project has been commended at the 2020 RTPI South West Awards for Planning Excellence.
The Minerals Local Plan (MLP) for Gloucestershire (2018 – 2023), submitted by our client Gloucestershire County Council, was recognised by RTPI.
LUC supported the preparation of the MLP by undertaking the Sustainability Appraisal (SA). The SA assisted the Council in preparing the MLP by identifying key sustainability issues that face the plan area. The appraisal predicted the likely effects of the plan on these issues and put forward recommendations to mitigate and monitor negative effects identified, as well as maximising the positive effects.
The MLP for Gloucestershire is important to ensure the steady and adequate supplies of minerals which are diminishing and finite. The plan seeks to secure amenity protections for host local communities, ensure prized local assets are safeguarded and enhanced and drive forward the response to the climate change emergency and help to decarbonise the local minerals industry.
