LUC runs ‘Missing Maps’ workshop
We are hosting a Missing Maps workshop this afternoon to join thousands of other volunteers mapping Nepal to aid the relief effort there.
Missing Maps is an initiative to map the most vulnerable places in the developing world, in order that NGOs and individuals can use the maps and data to better respond to crises in the area.
Mappers use open source software to trace roads, buildings and highways on to the map using aerial imagery which has been divided into “tiles”.
Led by Johnny Henshall from our Mapping and Visualisation team, 15 LUC consultants will spend the afternoon mapping some of the areas affected by the most recent earthquake on 12th May. There will be a presentation about the Missing Maps initiative, followed by a walkthrough, then hands-on mapping will start.
See www.missingmaps.org for more information.
