North Glasgow’s Claypits project completes Phase 1
We are excited that Scottish Canals officially opened the Garscube Bridge and Panmure Gate Link to the public this week. This connects communities on either side of the historic Forth & Clyde Canal in North Glasgow, marking an important milestone in the delivery of the £6m Claypits project.
LUC has worked with Scottish Canals for a number of years on this project. We prepared the Hamiltonhill Development Framework, which was informed by the earlier “What Floats Your Boat” Charette, and are now working on the design and delivery of wider green infrastructure to promote access, health and wellbeing.
The Garscube Bridge is a new retractable pedestrian and cycling bridge over the Forth & Clyde Canal, linked via a 750m long path, to the Panmure Gate. The Panmure Gate is an elevated metal walkway and a 100m long timber boardwalk. The new bridge and link will provide residents with access to nature within the city and the sustainable transport network along the canal.
Catherine Topley, CEO of Scottish Canals said: “The opening of Garscube Bridge and the Panmure Gate Link marks an important milestone for Scottish Canals and our partners in delivering the Claypits project as part of the wider regeneration in North Glasgow.”
The Claypits project will also deliver a local nature reserve which is due to open in Spring 2021.
