University of Northampton Waterside Campus wins Construction Project of the Year
The University of Northampton’s Waterside Campus has been awarded Construction Project of the Year at the East Midlands Property Dinner Awards.
The university commissioned LUC as a core design team member for their £330m new Waterside campus, working with architects Moses Cameron Williams, CPMG and Stride Treglown.
We were involved from the outset of the six-year project, developing an ecologically sensitive landscape masterplan to transform 25 hectares of contaminated riverside, derelict factories and a power station into the University’s new campus.
We designed a bold structure of routes, spaces and places, reinforced by lines and grids of trees, to provide a distinctive character to the whole site.
Comprising new academic and residential buildings, an Energy Centre, restored listed railway buildings and two new major river crossings, the completed scheme both celebrates the site’s scale and the 15,000 students and staff who use it, and acts as a major catalyst for regeneration in the town of Northampton.
As well as public realm and landscape design, LUC provided LVIA, input to masterplanning and enabling works, produced a Green Infrastructure strategy and interfaced with ecological and technical support during construction.
