LUC secures planning consent for new Benenden School facilities

Planning consent has been granted for an important scheme to develop a new hall and music school at Benenden School in Kent.

LUC has been working on the project for over a year, which involved an in depth pre-application planning process, using our planning, landscape architecture, landscape management, heritage and ecology services. This work follows our two previous schemes at the School – the floodlit all-weather pitch and sports pavilion; and new staff houses.

The existing school hall is the only building on the school campus where all students can come together as a community. However, as student numbers have grown over the years, it can no longer house all students and the full complement of staff at the same time. The existing music classrooms consist of run-down, pre-fabricated buildings which are unsightly and unfit for purpose for a school which prides itself on its high quality of education, especially in music.

The proposed scheme involves the demolition of the existing school hall and music school and the development of a new school hall and music school, including associated landscaping works and the restoration of the Pleasure Grounds.

The proposed development site is within the School’s long term plan which identifies sustainable improvements to campus facilities and infrastructure. These are designed to support and advance the School’s position as a leading provider of boarding education for girls.
