LUC on winning team for Rochester Riverside development
We are pleased to be on the winning team selected to deliver Rochester Riverside, an ambitious 74-acre regeneration project in Medway.
A competition was held and the developer-led team of Countryside Properties and The Hyde Group were chosen to deliver the plans for a new community in Kent.
LUC was part of the core design team working closely with two architectural practices, both at the conceptual and masterplan levels. Key concepts by LUC included playing up the potential ecological strengths of the site, its wonderful riverside frontage, and maximising connectivity with the highly characterful town centre – all encapsulated as Reconnecting Rochester with its Riverside.
Other initiatives include: reinforcing the local river, adding locally inspired artwork and industrial archaeology to reconnect with the site’s past and the creation of open spaces for beach volleyball, resident’s horticultural clubs, and spaces for pop-up markets.
The scheme has a development value of over £400million and will provide a new community based primary school, nursery, hotels, bar and restaurant, gym, healthcare facilities and a number of retail units, together with 4 hectares of open space including a 2.5km river side walkway. Around 1,300 new homes will transform the current site which lies between Rochester’s historic town centre and the River Medway.
LUC will now help develop the first phase and wider masterplan, with the planning application due to be submitted in early 2017. Construction is to start in late 2017 with an expected 12 years to completion.
