LUC receives social media training to enhance community consultations
Following on from our successful social media work within community consultation projects, LUC recently provided social media workshops for all staff.
The social media training covered the basic fundamentals of social media, how important it is today, the most popular social media networks and more. The sessions also had a strong focus on using social media for business purposes, to represent LUC as a company as well as for professional development.
Recent community consultation work with social media:
LUC, working with Brand New Media, set up a Facebook page to support the 2015 Scottish Marine Recreation and Tourism Survey. The page allowed us to share and distribute information about the survey through social media networks, achieving far greater reach and response rates than a similar, pre-social media, survey ten years ago. The page achieved around 270 ‘likes’. We also used Twitter to help raise awareness of the survey, with around 65 followers.
LUC created a Facebook group as part of our work on a green network strategy for the River Don Corridor in Aberdeen. The project was designed to realise the potential of the river corridor as a place for recreation, natural and cultural heritage, walking and cycling. It aimed to reconnect often deprived communities with the river and integrate major new residential developments in a positive way.
The Facebook page, originally envisaged as a way of sharing information about the project, has become a place for people to share information about events, photographs of the river and its wildlife and keep up to date with planning and sustainability issues. The group currently has around 280 members.
Our teams are excited about using their enhanced social media skills to find new ways to collaborate with project stakeholders.
