Kew Gardens Temperate House Precinct Project

Temperate House and Cassiobury Park finalists for Civic Trust Awards

The 2019 Regional Finalists have been revealed for the Civic Trust Awards, Pro-Tem Awards and AABC Conservation Awards and LUC is thrilled to have been recognised twice.

Kew Gardens Temperate House Precinct

Our work on the Kew Gardens Temperate House Precinct project has been named as a finalist for the AABC Conservation Awards alongside our colleagues at Rees Bolter. The grade I listed building is the world’s largest Victorian greenhouse. It had been closed to the public for five years while Kew’s biggest ever restoration took place, costing £41 million.

LUC was involved since the onset of the project in 2012, helping to secure a Heritage Lottery Fund grant and planning consent. We were then responsible for the landscape restoration of the scheme that included upgrading the path network and improving accessibility into the building. LUC’s ecology team provided ecological support throughout the project.

Cassiobury Park

After four years of design work and construction management by LUC as lead consultant, the £5m restored Cassiobury Park in Watford opened to the public in July 2017. This year, the project is a finalist at the Regional Civic Trust Pro-Tem Awards.

LUC restored surviving historic features such as the monumental Lime Avenue and carriage drives and estate watermill ruins; recreated iconic features of the picturesque parkland such as the Rustic Bridge; restored key aspects of the ‘Peoples’ Park’ – the tea pavilion and garden, the Bandstand and completely refurbished the popular water play area allied to a new contemporary park hub building.

Winning schemes will be presented with an Award or Commendation at the 60th Annual Civic Trust Awards Ceremony on Friday 1st March 2019.
