LUC supports theSpace to create transformative hub in Dunbar

LUC is delighted to begin working with theSpace, a social enterprise in Dunbar, to deliver a revolutionary and multi-generational space dedicated to action, learning, and development. LUC is leading the landscape design.

A people-centred philosophy underlines the project. It is forged through social action and enterprise and builds on the achievements of theSpace in North Berwick (2011-2015).

This visionary initiative introduces an innovative facility designed to support the younger generation through skills development and access to a diverse range of activities. Powered by youth, it serves as an active hub for the entire community.

The core of this project involves creating a substantial indoor skate and climbing centre. It will provide an empowering environment that fosters opportunities for multi-generational connections within a geographically diverse community. With a commitment to social impact, economic self-reliance, and environmental sustainability, theSpace intends to be a catalyst for positive transformation.

Leading the landscape design for the project, LUC is working closely with EMA Architects and the wider design team on the site masterplan. LUC’s input brings together in-house experts in planning, historic environment, ecology, and movement planning.

LUC helped theSpace secure funding for its involvement in this project up to the planning submission stage. Scott Matthews, Associate Director of Landscape Architecture at LUC, recently participated in the first consultation event.

This marks the beginning of an exciting journey towards establishing a dynamic and transformative space for the Dunbar community- we are excited to be working with the superb team at theSpace.
