LUC picks up three Landscape Institute awards

We are really proud to have won three major accolades at the Landscape Institute Awards ceremony in November, for our work in Glasgow, the South Downs National Park and Kennington.

The Local Landscape Planning category was awarded to us for our work in North Glasgow. We produced a cohesive development framework for the regeneration of the Woodside, Firhill, and Hamiltonhill areas, which impressed the judges for its innovative community engagement via the ‘What Floats Your Boat?’ Charrette. This engagement process determined that the Glasgow branch of the Forth and Clyde Canal had a key role to play in the regeneration of deprived North Glasgow communities.

In the South Downs National Park, we were called upon to provide evidence on views to ensure this aspect of the park’s special qualities could be understood, conserved and enhanced for future generations. We produced a series of user-friendly interactive tools including a 3D model that enables the user to access a range of more detailed research information about the National Park Landscape and Panoramic viewing software that enables users to experience views interactively through 360 degrees. This resulted in us winning the prestigious Strategic Landscape Planning Award.

Finally, we were ‘Highly Commended’ within the Heritage and Conservation category for our restoration of Kennington Park Flower Garden in London. We undertook careful restoration of the site, after a successful Heritage Lottery Fund application which allowed the garden to re-open in July 2015.
