Toryglen’s Malls Mire Green Infrastructure Project works commence
Works have begun on site at Malls Mire – the transformation of 16 hectares of derelict land in Toryglen, Glasgow into a multi-purpose park and woodland nature reserve.
LUC designed the masterplan, consulting extensively with the community to shape design proposals for green spaces and active travel routes in and around North Toryglen.
This consultation helped secure funding allowing the project to progress to delivery.
We developed detailed designs to improve the quality of green spaces in the area for people and wildlife. The plans provide better linkages between residential areas, facilities, and transport services by extending local walking and cycling routes.
We have included green and blue infrastructure proposals, which are essential to improve biodiversity and community facilities providing:
- sustainable drainage
- wildlife corridors
- an active travel network
- natural play
- outdoor exercise
- education
By applying sustainable design principles in this way, we aim to create an exemplar of climate change mitigation and green regeneration.
