LUC has been appointed by Scottish Borders Council to support the neighbourhood expansion of Tweedbank. Our landscape design, planning and ecology teams will produce the Supplementary Planning Guidance document (SPG).
The document sets out the spatial framework for the development. The plans comprise mixed-use development of:
- around 12 hectares of residential units
- approx. 1.5 – 2 hectares of employment land
- a possible dementia unit
Our draft is nearing completion and will go out to formal consultation imminently. It will target formal adoption through the planning committee at the end of 2019.
The SPG builds on the previous Tweedbank Masterplan to establish development parameters within the Lowood Estate – an area of high landscape value with strong associations with the River Tweed and the wider Eildon Hills. It sets development opportunities, constraints and establishes design quality guidelines.
Our work will help realise the potential of the site in delivering high-quality, sustainable development. The site has been assessed to establish land uses, maximum development areas and site constraints.
Our client at Scottish Borders Council said: “The work to date … is most impressive and I’m delighted to see the progress which has been made and how it is being developed.”
