LUC’s recent work on Landscape and Heritage Sensitivity in West Dorset and Weymouth and Portland Districts has now been published.
The purpose of this project was to support the West Dorset, Weymouth and Portland Local Plan Review, which will need to accommodate a significant amount of new growth in an area that is characterised by its high quality landscape and rich variety of natural and built heritage features, including the nationally designated Dorset AONB.
The project focused on the sensitivity of land surrounding the ten major settlements in the district, which are under major development pressure.
Development could have differing degrees of impact on these landscape and heritage assets. This study provides robust and up-to-date evidence to feed into the Review to inform the scale, form and location of future development. It also provides information to minimise harm to the landscape, heritage assets and the historic character and setting of the settlements; characteristics which make them desirable places to live and work.
