University of Westminster hosts Topping Out Ceremony to celebrate key milestone in Zone29 construction
On Monday 14 October, the University of Westminster celebrated a major milestone in the construction of its new centre for student enterprise and career success, Zone29.
LUC, which prepared and submitted the pre-application request for the refurbishment of 29 Marylebone Road, also managed the planning application and discharge of conditions for this significant project.

Zone29, located at 29 Marylebone Road, will provide a cutting-edge physical and digital space, connecting Westminster’s diverse student talent with the business world and the local community. Set to open in early 2026, the nine-storey building will serve as a collaborative hub for students, alumni, businesses, and local residents, fostering innovation in an inclusive and sustainable environment.
LUC's involvement in guiding the planning process ensures that Zone29 aligns with the University’s vision for a space that promotes wellbeing, inclusion, and sustainable development. The Topping Out Ceremony, held in collaboration with Morgan Sindall, marked the installation of the final structural beam.
Richard Dobson, Area Director for London at Morgan Sindall, opened the ceremony, emphasising the importance of Topping Out Ceremonies and the project's engagement with over 165 students. “This project promotes careers in construction and the wider industry,” said Richard.
Linsey Cole, University of Westminster’s Director for Business Engagement, shared an update on Zone29’s progress and how it will inspire new jobs, enterprises, and collaborations. Linsey acknowledged LUC's involvement in shaping the project alongside the consortium of partners: “Through this collaboration, we are bringing our vision to life and creating a space that is welcoming, fully accessible and inclusive for all.”
Vice-Chancellor and President of the University, Professor Peter Bonfield, spoke about the significance of Zone29 for students and the wider community. “Zone29 will be a hub for students, alumni, and businesses to co-create and make a lasting impact,” Peter said.
Attendees, including staff and students from the University, signed the final beams and a commemorative canvas that will be displayed at the building’s entrance. The event concluded with a networking reception, where participants discussed the future of the space.
The development of Zone29 supports key United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure), and SDG 17 (Partnership for the Goals). LUC's commitment to sustainable and inclusive design has played a pivotal role in shaping the project’s alignment with these global goals.
