New whisky distillery open in Glasgow
The first whisky distillery for over 100 years has opened in Glasgow, at the former Pump House on the banks of the River Clyde.
LUC designed the public realm for the multi-million pound Clydeside Distillery development and major new visitor attraction, which includes a micro-distillery, visitor centre, cafe and gift shop.
LUC’s design has resulted in a positive riverside plaza and threshold space for the building whilst accommodating the practicalities of car parking requirements. The design is influenced by abstract references taken from the materiality and texture of whisky barrels.
The Clydeside Distillery’s chairman, Tim Morrison, said: “After more than a century, copper stills are producing spirit on the banks of the Clyde and we’re incredibly proud to be able to open our doors to the public.”
