Steven Orr to speak at York and North Yorkshire Local Enterprise Partnership ‘Future Towns’ conference

LUC’s Associate Director of Planning + Historic Environment, Steven Orr, is set to speak at an online conference this week.

York and North Yorkshire Local Enterprise Partnership’s ‘Future Towns’ conference will focus on a ‘Greener, Fairer, Stronger’ vision for reshaping the economy in the area.

The event comprises speakers, webinars and a Q&A with panellists.

Steven’s presentation will focus on the opportunities for the region’s rich heritage, strong sense of place and fantastic heritage assets to contribute to regeneration, green recovery and ‘good growth’.

The Covid-19 pandemic has exacerbated trends already putting pressure on our towns and cities, raising important questions and opportunities around what we want our future high streets and towns to look like and function as places and communities.

Managing and unlocking these opportunities needs careful consideration – but also new, creative thinking to ensure that heritage assets play a sustainable role in helping to meet demand for housing, business and cultural facilities.

Steven’s paper draws on work LUC is undertaking for the LEP and Historic England.
