Hello Waterside: wildlife attracted to new riverside campus
LUC’s work at the newly completed Waterside Campus for the University of Northampton was always intended to be ecologically underpinned, but there is always room for the unexpected… such as convoys of geese as traffic calming!
It seems that the geese at Waterside share the university’s delight in their brand new 25-hectare campus and public realm, which was designed by LUC and constructed over the last three years. Our design deliberately contrasts a highly urban public realm and a natural and ecological landscape which links with the adjacent river corridor and its wildlife sites.

We transformed the on-site landscape from a contaminated brownfield site into a whole range of extensive habitats, from aquatic and damp to meadow and areas left for natural colonisation. And we’re delighted with recent sightings of unusual fauna such as otters and adder.
