Friends of the Earth (FOE) recently published a new report on the potential for onshore wind and solar power in England.
LUC is proud to have played a role in supporting this important research.
FOE drew on LUC’s methodology to identify potential strategic constraints to large-scale renewable energy projects. The report builds on valuable advice we provided to Stroud Council in the Stroud District Renewable Energy Resources Assessment, working alongside the Centre for Sustainable Energy.
Despite using conservative assumptions, FOE's report identifies the huge potential for onshore wind and solar farms, with enough land available to generate 13 times more electricity than current levels. This could significantly boost the UK's energy independence and progress towards a greener future.
LUC remains committed to supporting sustainable development, and we're delighted to see our expertise used to inform such impactful research.
We continue to offer more detailed local authority-level renewable energy studies, that can be used to support the development of effective renewable energy policies in Local Plans.
