Glenmuckloch to Glenglass reinforcement project receives Section 37 consent
The Glenmuckloch to Glenglass Reinforcement Project (GGRP) has been granted Section 37 consent by Scottish Ministers.
LUC collaborated with Scottish Power Energy Networks (SPEN) to oversee the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for the GGRP. This includes a new overhead line and substation at Glenmuckloch to link the approved Glenmuckloch Pumped-Storage Hydro and other wind farms in the region to the existing electricity transmission network at Glenglass substation.
SPEN operates the electricity transmission network in central and southern Scotland. LUC supported the project through routeing, consultation, and the consenting processes. In addition to coordinating the EIA, LUC provided expertise in planning, ecology, heritage, landscape and GIS and visualisations. The team was also supported by specialist subconsultants Kaya Consulting (hydrology), East Point Geo (peat), and Mott MacDonald (traffic).
The GGRP will play a crucial role in providing essential infrastructure for decarbonizing the UK’s energy supply.
