LUC provides specialist landscape planning services to Uisenis Wind Farm

LUC has provided specialist landscape planning services in support of the Section 36 application for UisenisWind Farm, conducting several landscape planning and visualisation services on behalf of Eurowind Energy.

We started working on this long-standing project in 2007, when our teams became involved in the production of the EIA and LVIA for previous planning applications.

Our teams advised on the design of the scheme and completed the Landscape and Visual Impact Assessment (LVIA), including the production of photomontages to accompany the LVIA. The LVIA forms part of the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), which has been submitted in support of the proposals.

The site is approximately 20 kilometres southwest of Stornoway on the Isle of Lewis in Scotland. The proposed development is made up of 25 wind turbines (with a tip height of 180-200 metres) and associated infrastructure.

Currently, the site has consent for 45 wind turbines, across three separate applications (Muaitheabhal Wind Farm, Muaitheabhal East Extension and Muaitheabhal South Extension).

The indicative installed capacity of the project is approximately 165MW, which would contribute to meeting the renewable energy generation targets set out by the Scottish Government.  Scotland’s goal to have an overall installed onshore wind capacity of 20GW by 2030 is set out in the Onshore Wind Policy Statement (2022)

The application was submitted to the Scottish Government Energy Consents Unit (ECU) under Section 36 of the Electricity Act 1989. As the proposals are for a project greater than 50MW, Scottish ministers are responsible for determining the outcome of the application. The EIA will also be considered by statutory consultees over the coming months.
