LUC shortlisted for C40 Reinventing Cities Competition at Applecross Wharf
LUC is delighted to be shortlisted as part of a team, with Collective Architecture and Igloo Regeneration, for the C40 Reinventing Cities competition for the Applecross Wharf project in Glasgow, progressing from Phase 1 to Phase 2 of the selection process.
The competition, which focuses on transforming underutilised urban sites into innovative and sustainable spaces, includes Applecross Wharf in Glasgow. Located along the Glasgow Canal, the site is currently home to Scottish Canals’ head office and operational buildings, as well as a large expanse of waterfront brownfield land.
The project aims to create an innovative and sustainable new mixed-use community that enhances quality of life, connectivity, while respecting the site’s heritage and responding to the site’s unique canal-side location.
The competition launched in February 2024, finalists were selected in August 2024, and the winning project is anticipated to be announced in March 2026.
LUC’s involvement builds upon our extensive experience of working on projects associated with the Glasgow Canal, most notably the award-winning Claypits Local Nature Reserve which is located adjacent to the competition site.
Moving into phase 2, the team looks forward to refining its proposals in collaboration with Scottish Canals and Glasgow City Council to deliver a project that aligns with the competition’s ambitious environmental and social objectives.
We are delighted to maintain our involvement in such a special site, which has played a significant role in our work in recent years.
