LUC contributes to major consent for Uisenis Wind Farm on Lewis

The Uisenis Wind Farm, developed by Eurowind Energy, has just been granted consent by the Scottish Ministers with LUC's support. Located on Lewis in the Outer Hebrides, the project will deliver 25 turbines of up to 200 m in height, generating around 165 MW of renewable energy. This marks a major step forward in helping Scotland meet its net zero targets.

LUC has been involved with the site since 2007, providing landscape planning, visualisation and environmental advice throughout the project’s evolution. Our long-term involvement has helped shape the design and secure consent for this significant renewable energy scheme, supporting Scotland’s transition to a low-carbon future.

The project builds on the previously consented Muaitheabhal Wind Farm and subsequent extensions (45 turbines of up to 150m), redesigned to reflect advances in turbine technology and optimise output while minimising environmental impact. Construction is anticipated to start around 2027, with completion targeted for 2030 in anticipation of the energisation of the Western Isles HVDC Link Project with mainland Scotland.

This consent is a major milestone and a flagship project for Eurowind, but it’s just as much yours as it is ours. My sincere thanks to the LUC team, your work has been outstanding.”

Senior Development Manager at Eurowind Energy Limited

Over nearly two decades, LUC has played a key role in helping the project navigate the complex consenting process. Our input has included:

  • Landscape and Visual Impact Assessment (LVIA): Producing detailed photomontages and visualisations to inform design decisions and support assessment by stakeholders and Scottish Ministers.
  • Design and layout advice: Advising on turbine siting, height and mitigation measures to ensure the scheme balances renewable potential with landscape sensitivity.
  • Environmental coordination: Contributing to the wider Environmental Impact Assessment and ensuring landscape and visual considerations align with ecological and cultural priorities.

Our long-term involvement, and collaboration with Eurowind Energy and the wider project team on the latest evolution of the site, demonstrates how consistent specialist expertise can deliver successful outcomes for complex, large-scale developments.
