LUC contributed to the detailed planning application and EIA for Phase 1 of the Scottish Marine Technology Park development.
The development sits on 47 acres of derelict brownfield land at Old Kilpatrick in West Dunbartonshire. The application received consent from the West Dunbartonshire Council Planning Committee on 28 August 2019. Our Landscape Planning and GIS & Visualisation teams provided input.
The site was formerly home to the Carless oil storage facility, which suffered extensive damage during the second world war. Located close to the Erskine Bridge and alongside the River Clyde, it will have direct access to a deep-water channel via an 80-metre long deep water quayside berth with heavy lift facilities. It will return marine manufacturing and support industries to this part of the Clyde which has a rich heritage in ship building and marine fabrication. Realised by Glasgow-based marine engineering company Malin Group, working with Scottish Enterprise, the development is expected to bring up to 1000 jobs to the area.
LUC undertook the Landscape and Visual Impact Assessment as part of the EIA for the proposals. This included the preparation of visualisations to illustrate the Phase 1 development.
