Oban Town Centre North Active Travel
Reimagining Oban's active travel options
Commissioned by Argyll & Bute Council and supported by Transport Scotland, LUC partnered with Oban to create a blueprint for a more connected and sustainable transport network.

A vision for active travel
LUC's work will empower Oban to transform its streets, encouraging more residents and visitors to embrace walking, cycling, and wheeling.
This, in turn, will contribute to a healthier and more vibrant community.
Laying the groundwork
LUC's landscape architects and transport planners conducted a comprehensive Stage 1 Feasibility Study.
This included gathering baseline data, identifying gaps in the existing network, and crafting a Strategic Access Framework.
Public engagement played a crucial role, ensuring the community's voice shaped the project's direction.

Design takes centre stage
Building on the findings of Stage 1, LUC's team created a shortlist of priority projects. We produced detailed concept designs, accompanied by supporting documents like Road Safety Audits and costed delivery plans.
These designs considered factors like accessibility, safety, and environmental impact, ensuring a holistic approach.
Collaboration is key
LUC fostered close collaboration throughout the project. A dedicated Partnership Steering Group, made up of representatives from Argyll & Bute Council, Transport Scotland, Sustrans, and community stakeholders, provided valuable guidance.
LUC also organised public events to ensure the community remained informed and engaged in the decision-making process.
