We were all sad to hear that the eminent landscape architect, planner and architect Peter Daniel passed away last month.
Peter’s early work on new towns was based on the belief that council housing should be as good as private housing and, like LUC, he helped transform impoverished landscapes characterised by slag heaps and spoil into a good living environment. He was awarded the first ever Landscape Institute Scotland lifetime achievement award in 2012.
He worked alongside LUC on a range of projects, inspiring many of us with his ethos.
Director of Landscape Architecture in our Glasgow office Martin Tabor said: “Peter was an eccentric, intelligent and hugely likeable character with an acute understanding of what makes a landscape special, and how to tease out opportunities from the most difficult sites. He was also tremendous fun with an enthusiasm and zest for life (and beer) that defied his age. He will be sorely missed.”
Recent news
LUC recently developed an in-depth masterplan for the Tarbet Visitor Centre project, which will be featured on BBC Scotland's Landward at 8:30 pm on Thursday. The episode is part of a special series on Scotland's national parks, hosted by Dougie Vipond.
